Last week on Facebook, I was lamenting the fact that our TV [2o or so years old], our car [not that freakin' old] and our pool pump had all died within 2 weeks of each other. At the time, I laughed at said, “Well, now the only major system I haven’t replaced on this house is the HVAC.” Someone cautioned me against such rash statements.
In the past 2 days, we got the TV and the pool pump replaced. And so today, I was a little panicked to hear a really loud clunking sound out back. I raced out, concerned that something was going wrong with the new pump in this freezing rain.
Silly me.
It was instead my Reagan-era [maybe Carter Administration -- no one knows for sure because all identifying info has long since worn away] HVAC. I did notice that the fan on top was mostly covered with an inch of ice. So I chiseled a lot of that off, turned the HVAC back on, and so far — as long as I’ve been writing here — it’s running normally.
Cross your fingers for my poor heat pump.
