Contemplating Fixin’ Supper’s future

by lcreekmo on November 27, 2009

When I started this blog, I was looking for a topic unrelated to my work that I could write about every day, so I choose cooking. For a long time, I wrote almost exclusively about cooking, sharing lots of recipes and my thoughts on food in general.

In the past couple of years, I’ve been a lot more sporadic about blogging here, for several reasons. I’m using Facebook for lots of friend connections [and indeed, I cross-post Fixin' Supper there and often get more comments there than here on www.fixinsupper.com] and Twitter for daily commentary. I’ve moved my professional blogging to my company site, Creekmore Consulting. And I’m really busy, what with having 3 kids now and running my own company.

But I’m reluctant to let this go. So now I’m thinking hard about what to do with Fixin’ Supper. I’m contemplating returning to my roots and focusing lots more on food and cooking again, perhaps with a regular publishing schedule. If you’re out there reading this, I’d be curious about your thoughts. What makes you read Fixin’ Supper? What do you like best? What do you dislike? [You can comment below or email me at lcreekmo at gmail dot com.]

Thanks for any ideas you want to share. I’ll keep you updated on my thoughts.

Need to avoid housework? Edit your CSS

by lcreekmo on February 1, 2008

Well, I needed to do a lot around the house tonight. I have family coming in tomorrow and there’s plenty of dirt around here to have kept me busy all night. Instead? I hope you like the new logo and style edits. As usual, I’m not quite done but I’m going to leave it here for now.

I guess I should clean up a little.

That took a ridiculous amount of time and effort

But the banner is finally back.

Yes I do

by lcreekmo on April 24, 2007

I have no idea where my Fixin’ Supper banner went, either. It was here the other day.

I guess I will have to poke around in the innards tonight. Stay tuned.

Figured it out: I had this temporarily stored on a server at work that’s had problems this week. I’ll have to move the banner to a new location tonight!

Enough for now

by lcreekmo on March 25, 2007

Look! I made the banner come back. There’s something about the way the Typepad set template was originally created that won’t let me see all the pieces/parts of the CSS and there’s something keeping me fr floating that and the Flickr banner on the top together. That, or I’m missing something obvious.

We’ll find out which when I can con one of my more tech-savvy friends into looking under the hood.

Here’s a fun idea

by lcreekmo on March 24, 2007

Why not try making all kinds of adjustments to the CSS and code underlying your blog, when you can only see most of the code that makes the site tick? You’ll have fun things happen like:

  • Your banner will disappear!
  • Your cool new Flickr badge will reposition itself all over the page!
  • Your right-hand column will vanish!

Actually, I made the RH column vanish on purpose, and I just haven’t replaced it yet. But the list above seems more complete with three items, don’t you think?

Seeing as how I was in the car most of the day today, I am going to leave the banner mystery for tomorrow. In fact, the banner was here earlier tonight, and I really like it. Hopefully you will too, soon.

The inmates are in charge

by lcreekmo on March 18, 2007

Holy cow, this new Flickr feature I’ve been testing for Fixin’ Supper—in what I thought was a development template—has posted itself to my site.

Umm, this isn’t what Fixin’ Supper is supposed to look like.

Unfortunately, I won’t have time to fix it til Monday night or Tuesday. Hang in there….New design is coming. Sooner than I thought.

You’re not crazy, I am

by lcreekmo on March 16, 2007

Yes, I’ve been messing with my stylesheet for Fixin’ Supper. No, this isn’t a new design. I’ve been playing with it to understand how it’s constructed better, so that I can create a new design soon.

That is all.
