Everyday Food: My new fave food mag

by lcreekmo on February 13, 2010

Just thought I’d share that this is my new favorite food magazine. Its recipes are interesting, innovative and easy to make. It is a small book, and perhaps because of that, it doesn’t waste any space with pointless stuff.

More than worth the money I paid for it.

Rumor-mongering about Gourmet magazine

by lcreekmo on January 12, 2009

I’m being a bad blogger [MSM would just say "a blogger"] and not confirming this before re-posting. But I just heard on Twitter that Gourmet magazine may be headed for the chopping block.

Two thoughts:

  • That’s too bad. I hate to see a magazine fail, especially one with a long history like Gourment.
  • I like Saveur better anyway. I subscribed to Saveur first, and when I added Gourmet later, I found it wasn’t really necessary to me. I’m more of a Saveur kind of cook, I suppose. [Saveur tends to have long, well-illustrated articles chock full of entry points. Lots of pictures. Lots of accessibility to world cuisine.] Gourmet is too esoteric for me. [Gourmet has a lot more words, too many in my opinion. And I'm a writer. But I need to see the food, and learn how to make it. Not read your thousands-of-words-long thoughts about it.] Actually, I think I’m even more of a Cook’s Illustrated kind of cook — you know, hey, let’s try it this way and see what happens!

That said, I love, love, love Epicurious.com. If I could have but one cooking website, that would be it. It is by far my favorite recipe archive online. I rarely have to go beyond it. Here’s hoping Conde Nast continues to fully support Epicurious, no matter what happens to Gourmet.
